LX Navigation LX1600

Introduction

LX1600 is a product of company LX Navigation. This is their first product that needs Pocket PC for normal operation. Whole instrument consists of three devices:

• LX1600 base unit

• Pocket PC device with flyWithCE Navigator

• GPS receiver or Flight recorder

LX1600 instrument requires only one standard 58mm cut out for standard vario display. It does not have buttons or other controls. Instrument is controlled with program flyWithCE Navigator running on standard Windows CE Pocket PC device with ARM microprocessor.

Instrument also provides power supply for HP iPAQ Pocket PC device trough communication cable between Pocket PC and LX1600.

For normal operation you will have to connect GPS receiver with standard NMEA output to LX1600 instrument. You can use standard GPS receiver or Flight recorder (for instance Colibri or LX20 from LX Navigation).

If you are using as a source of NMEA signal one of the flight recorders which are supported by program DownLoader, you can change flight info, update waypoints and download flights through LX1600 using standard connection cable supplied with LX1600. You do not need additional cables or adapters.

Benefits of new design

1. User interface		Combination of standard LCD vario display with big color and touch sensitive display on Pocket PC device. Buttons on instrument are substituted with buttons on Pocket PC device.

2. Modular hardware design		This design is well balanced with analog to digital converter and LCD vario display inside LX1600 and big color display, powerful 32-bit microprocessor and large amount of memory inside Pocket PC. As NMEA source you can use GPS receiver or Flight recorder.

3. Easy software upgrades		Usually you will upgrade only software in your Pocket PC device. Upgrades will be downloaded from the Internet and installed to your Pocket PC at home. LX1600 will stay fixed in you instrument panel in your plane.

4. Easy hardware upgrades		Modular design enables you to change only one of the components. You will be able to change Pocket PC device when new and more powerful devices will be introduced.

5. Sharing the plane		When many pilots share the same plane each will have its own Pocket PC with custom settings (data files and program settings). When you would like to go flying, you just plug in your Pocket PC and everything is set-up for you.

6. Lower cost of ownership		You do not need a notebook, because you will be able to declare tasks, set-up the instrument and download flights with Pocket PC.
