 Navigator
Navigator is a full featured glider navigation program. On the map you can see waypoints, airspaces and selected task. As a background you can use elevation, differential and bitmap (raster) map.

It also calculates and displays useful information about the final glide, speed and direction of wind and speed to fly. On the second window thermal statistics are displayed.

Program is simple and easy to use.

 Navigator Memory Card installation

Navigator can be installed and registered to the memory card. By doing so you will:
        - all files will be saved on memory card and will not occupy main memory
        - data will be preserved form power loss
        - program can be easily transferred form one Pocket PC to another
        - all IGC flights will be saved to memory card
There are two ways how you can install the program to memory card:
        - use special version of the install program to install directly to the memory card
        - transfer already installed program to memory card

Download Navigator Memory Card installation manual.

 Navigator feature list
Navigator is a program which is targeting average pilot who is flying for fun and for competition and cross country pilots who are searching for the program with simpler user interface. But this simple user interface is on the other hand deceiving, because the feature list is quite long and most pilots will find everything that they need for recreation, cross country and competition flying.

Check the feature list on the Navigator feature list page.

 Navigator safety features
There are two kinds of safety features. One are the special features that would alert you for the possible problems or help you out in critical situations. Second kind of features is the program design itself, because user interface should be designed to help the pilot and not to distract him or require too much attention.

Check the full list of the safety features on the Navigator safety page.

 Registration options
Program can be registered to Pocket PC or to instrument. For more information please reed Register Navigator section in Navigator user's manual.

In this table differences between Navigator Free and Navigator are described. Navigator Free will read only standard NMEA GPS sentences and will not decode other sentences that are transmitted from glider instruments (they usually include information about pressure altitude, vario, airspeed,...). This information is used for more accurate final glide and wind calculation. Beside the differences in this table all other features are supported in Navigator and Navigator Free. Features not mentioned in upper table are enabled for both versions of Navigator.

 Supported file formats
Navigator does not introduce another waypoint format (like other software and instrument manufacturers), but instead of that uses several well known formats that are in use for several years. By doing so Navigator takes advantage of the big database of already created files for almost every part of the World.
Waypoints

Program supports four waypoint file formats:

CUP SeeYou waypoint and task file format
DAT Winpilot waypoint file format
  WPZ Zander waypoint file format
FDT flyWithCE database format generated on the Map & Data web page
Reserved airspaces

Program supports two airspace formats:

TXT OpenAir airspace format
SUA Tim Newport-Peace airspace format
File resources
You can download waypoint and airspace files from the Worldwide Soaring Turnpoint Exchange web site:
waypoint Worldwide Soaring Turnpoint Exchange
airspace Worldwide Soaring Turnpoint Exchange - Special Use Airspace
elevation map Map & Data web page

How to install waypoint and airspace files?
To install the certain file to the Pocket PC use File explorer and copy files to the Pocket PC in \My Documents\ folder. The process is simple and requires installed ActiveSync program. After you will connect the Pocket PC to PC you will get new Mobile device icon in My computer folder. This mobile device is Pocket PC and you can copy files to or from Pocket PC like it would be a normal disk device. Than you have to select copied files in Settings - File dialog window.

 Color elevation maps
Program Navigator supports color elevation maps. They can be displayed as elevation maps or as differential maps (areas above plane are marked with red color).

Data from elevation maps is also used for the final glide calculation. Navigator will warn you if there is terrain between you and the waypoint (selected or task).

Maps are generated on the Maps & Data web site.

 Bitmap (raster) maps
Bitmap (raster) maps can be also used as map background. The base for this is BMP file that you can prepare yourself or you can get this file from one of the official map sources that also offer maps in digital format.

Map is scaled and rotated to the current zoom level and map orientation settings. In the Bitmap map manual is listed how you can prepare, install and use the bitmap maps.

Sample map is available on the Download page. If you will be using this map in Simulator make sure that you select one of the GPS positions listed in MAP file as start position for Simulator (Hardware - Simulator).

Download Navigator Bitmap maps manual or sample map for Detroit.

 Supported instruments
Program Navigator decodes NMEA sentences transmitted from GPS receivers. It also decodes additional sentences transmitted from some glider instruments.

As a source of NMEA sentences you can use any standard GPS receiver or flight recorder. Default communication speed is 4800 bps with one stop bit and no parity. In settings there is a special GPS window where you can see which sentences are sent form your device and which are used in Navigator. I would recommend that you turn off unused sentences to keep communication at minimum.

If there is no serial port available or Navigator did not received at start any NMEA sentences program automatically switches to simulator mode. If you would like to use beta version of program Navigator in tracking mode your instrument will have to transmit ZDA or RMC sentence.
Program Navigator can also decode additional sentences form following instruments:
        - LX Navigation (LX20, Colibri, LX160, LX1600, LX5000, LX7000, LX7007)
        - Zander (SR940, SR941)
        - Borgelt B50
        - Volkslogger
        - Cambridge Aero 302
        - Cambridge GPS_NAV 10, 20 and 25
        - Westerboer VW921, VW922
        - EW Avionics
Usually you will have to enable those sentences in your instrument (they are usually called Winpilot interface). By default program decodes all know sentences. If you would like to display additional data you should select correct device in Hardware Instrument dialog window.

 Supported platforms
Program Navigator is running on Windows CE Pocket PC devices with OS version 3.0 or higher (Pocket PC 2000, Pocket PC 2002, Pocket PC 2003 and Pocket PC 2003 SE). There are no plans at this moment to port this program to older versions of operating system (Palm PC versions 2.01 and 2.11). Program will support devices with QVGA (320 x 240 pixels) and VGA (640 x 480 pixels) display resolution.
Program will run on following devices:
        - all Strong ARM devices
        - Compaq Aero 1550 devices
        - Compaq Aero 15XX devices with operating system upgrade (OS version 3.0)
